The Markham Tamil Seniors Association was inaugurated in November 2006 with just 15 members. The Centre has since surpassed the 300 mark, by the year end, 2016.
Our aims and objectives are :
- To encourage seniors to contribute their skills, experience and wisdom, in support of social well-being in the Tamil Community in particular and others in general in the Markham area and suburbs.
- To promote the ongoing involvement of seniors with other similar organizations and to adapt to the Canadian way of life.
- To assess the common social and health problems of the seniors and explore ways of meeting these needs by raising awareness about the abuse and neglect of older adults.
- To encourage the engagement of youth with senior activities and to promote arts and culture.
- To promote a Seniors for Seniors Project that would reduce loneliness, social and spiritual isolation thereby assisting seniors living alone, in their own homes and in elder care centres; and, to provide information on seniors programs and services of The Governments of Ontario and Canada.
